SELL SELL SELL! BUY BUY BUY!

Remember my post about my annual review and raise? Well the raise hadn’t taken effect yet and I had to see the HR person for our department about something else, so I inquired about the status.

I got a mixed report; apparently raises normally take effect in July, and I will be switching to a higher pay grade then. If I wait until July for the raise it will be a percentage of the higher base rather than my current salary, which comes out to a larger cash increase. She could put the raise through now, but then it is a percentage of my current salary and I won’t get a raise in July, I will only change grades.

So it makes sense to wait, but it will be three months from my review before the paperwork is even started. Good news from this, she said my boss asked for the maximum raise allowed which is actually 15% rather than 10%. So I might be getting a base salary increase and then a raise of 15% on top of that, which would be sweet.

Another thing she mentioned: I am currently in the highest pay grade for hourly employees, so I will be switching from hourly with overtime to a salaried fixed rate. This is alright, but the nature of my job requires random hours and some weeks end up being a lot more than 40 hours long. I guess if I have long days on a salaried schedule I can be justified in taking a half day on Friday or something equivalent, but its still not the same as double rated overtime.
Overall this is a great development and I am very happy with it. And… There’s more free stuff! Ryan has been going crazy finding all these freebies lately. They should start flowing in to our mailbox really soon.

Oh, and one last thing. I stumbled across this yesterday and it made me really laugh out loud because it’s true:
