My mind has been a little preoccupied lately as I am very fortunate to be evaluating several job opportunities, both local and non-local. Lez and I pulled in really early this morning from our mini vacation/investigation of new towns to live in/evaluation of job offers trip in the Philadelphia and middle New Jersey area. One thing we had plenty of was quiet driving time to talk and think and we narrowed the search down to two local companies here in Rochester. I am still trying to find a fit somewhere and think it might be fun and challenging to give one of these two positions and companies a try. I am currently in the negotiation process and we will see what details play out.
September 2008 Summary:
In September we were lucky enough to be able to increase our net worth by $993 or 4.13%. This is the first full month without dual normal job incomes so it is nice to see our predictions of flexibility actually playing out. It was a bloody month for our investments (I am sure October will be even more interesting) resulting in a $840 or 5.86% loss.

- Alternative Income Details
- We were able to add over $1,056 to our monthly income for September. Take a look at our detailed tracking spreadsheet as we continue to work to grow these opportunities.
- Goal#1: $10k Emergency Fund - Complete @ $10,304. Still full and interest growing, no impact.
- Goal#2: High Interest Student Loans - at $25,411.88. One of the two loans included in this goal is currently in the repayment period. I am maintaining normal minimum payments on these (and all) student loans until my income stabilizes. Once I figure things out we plan on obviously accelerating repayment.
- Goal#3: House down payment - $0 of $40,000 saved. Since this is currently the third and lowest stacked goal, it may be a little while before we achieve spillover.
