Airport 5k Run – Our First Race

by Les@SpillingBuckets on May 28, 2009

In an effort to stay motivated with running and exercise Ryan and I have signed up for a race – a 5k specifically.

It’s called the Airport 5k and is being held at the Greater Rochester International Airport on June 27th, 2009.

The race will take place on a runway, which we think is pretty cool. (link goes to an aerial photo of the course) There will also be old planes and other stuff to check out along the way, which we plan on viewing after the run.

Donations and proceeds from the race will to go help the Lifetime Assistance Foundation. From the website:

The Lifetime Assistance Foundation was founded in 1994 to raise funds to assure a bright future for individuals and families served by Lifetime and to assure continued quality service for persons with developmental disabilities well into the future.

Not only are we getting in shape, and running further than either of us has run before (this is 3.1 miles) – but we are also helping those with disabilities learn to be self-sufficient and maintain a positive future.

There is just about a month left until the race, and we are very busy running and training every chance we get. On Monday, for the first time, I was able to run the full 3 miles; this was definitely the first time in my life I’ve gone that far without having to stop. The training, and our healthier eating habits, are paying off, so hopefully we’ll both do well when we run.

We are looking for donations to help us fund the event. If you are interested in supporting Ryan and I please consider making a PayPal donation. Even if you can only donate a few dollars, every little bit helps.

All money received from this will go 100% to the race and the Lifetime Assistance Foundation.

Thanks!
