New Sponsored Entrepreneur: Afi’s Grocery Store in Togo

by Ry@SpillingBuckets on August 11, 2009

I love receiving mail. I don’t know why but it is still so much fun. You reach inside the box, slide out a stack of envelopes, and sort through the letters and spam. Even in college, when the post office box was a 10 minute walk away I would sometimes go twice a day, the first time fruitless because I was too early.

Today was no different. I reached inside and collected the stack of envelopes and notices. But as I tossed aside the $10 off Bed Bath and Beyond coupon and an ad for the $18 Oil Change & More service all that was left was a student loan billing statement and our mortgage payment coupon. I wasn’t the least bit dissapointed. For some odd reason I enjoy receiving bills… “Here is another chance to decrease my liabilities and increase my assets”.. I view it as an opportunity to make progress in this economic system.

Strange? Yes. Pointless commentary? No. This is a long in the tooth way of introducing a new sponsored Kiva entrepreneur. It goes down to the core of why we enjoy helping in this unique way. We can help provide opportunity to others who may not have the benefit of an economic system/framework like ours. It is an exciting thing.

Thanks to your help, I am proud to say that we are able to add another entrepreneur to team bloggers.

Name: Afi Yenkey
Location: Adidogomé, Togo
Activity: Grocery Store

Here is her story [from Kiva]: This is a woman who earns revenues from commerce in grocery items. She has been operating at the local market of Adidogomé since 2005. The customer demand is high right now. To satisfy it, she must stock up again, which is why she’s requesting a loan from WAGES in order to buy four boxes of spaghetti, six drums of “nioto” oil, four middle-sized drums of red palm oil, one box of Momo Magic detergent, and various necessities. She is married and has one child.
