The photo at left is of the “Jack Rabbit” roller coaster snapped last night at Seabreeze Amusement Park in Rochester, NY. Opening as the fastest roller coaster in the world in 1920 the ride remains a mainstay of the park and is the 4th oldest roller coaster ever built.
We had a chance to learn a little more about the park at several displays throughout.
The grounds and its ownership tell a unique history of change and perseverance and of reinvention as the park adapted to change with the times.
Our reinvention as it relates to income will likely chart a similar course of roller coaster peaks and valleys. Part of the draw of this new shift is this very fluctuation, however it certainly does add significant complexity to long term planning.
Speaking of long term planning, the month of September holds not only the first day of Autumn but also the first scheduled quarterly self-employment tax payment, which will be reflected at the end of month update.
We’ve mentioned this before but also in the works is a possible restructuring of these updates to show monthly free cash flow, with an emphasis on sustainability. In the future as the investment portion of our net worth possibly grows in size our monthly impact to the overall financial picture will become less clear. In other words the net worth update may eventually just become a report on the gains or losses of our investment portfolio.
Net Worth Update for August 2010
Our August net worth stands at $29,014 an increase of $3,414 since our last net worth update in July. It was a busy month and pretty much marked the first full month of small business operation.
In true roller coaster fashion we allocated about half of our business profits to the creation of a peak and valley fund (represented as “other property” in the graphs below because Key Bank is not yet supported by mint). We aren’t sure if we need to keep it around, especially after establishing a separate emergency fund for the businesses last month, but it may prove helpful to smooth out future months.
Our trip to Yosemite National Park also put a little dent in our progress but meaningful events and experiences, like travel, especially now that we have more freedom of time, are things that we decided not to defer if we can help it.
Here is the breakdown:
