Sustainable Farming with Meat and Vegetable CSAs: Week 3 Analysis

As part of our continuing experiments with sustainable agriculture and having more control where our food comes from, we are keeping records of the types and quantities of our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) bounties and their respective price comparisons with our local grocery store. This week we had both our first meat CSA pick up and another batch of vegetables. So mark this post as analyzing Mud Creek Farm CSA weeks 2 and 3, and High Point Farm CSA month 1 for meat.

You’ve seen this video right? The one where the grandmother gets pushed off the cliff by Medicare destroying Republicans. It’s nasty. But it’s only the beginning. I think we haven’t even begun to see the level of conflict that will soon arise out of our political and economic decision environment. More than liberal versus conservative, I see a generational battleground and I agree with John Loeffler’s view that’s it’s all about entitlements.

First CSA Farm Pickup of 2011

Our share of Mud Creek Farm’s Veggies cost us just over $26/week, ($575 total for 22 weeks paid upfront), I wondered how much we are saving compared to if we bought the vegetables ourselves at the grocery store, and the only way to find out was to do a item by item cost rundown.
